Frequently Asked Questions
- QUESTION: My family member is incarcerated and has requested that I order a transcript of his sentencing proceeding. What should I do?
- ANSWER: Complete the transcript inquiry form on the “Transcript Information” page. Once your inquiry is processed, a court reporter will contact you to provide the estimated number of pages and the estimated cost for the transcript.
- QUESTION: Can you send the transcript to my incarcerated family member?
- ANSWER: Court reporters typically provide transcripts via email in PDF format. If you are requesting a printed transcript be sent directly to someone incarcerated, you must first determine whether the Bureau of Prisons location will accept the transcript for delivery to the prisoner. If so, then you must provide the court reporter with the prisoner’s location name, address, and BOP register number.
- QUESTION: I need to get the papers for a case. How do I do that?
- ANSWER: Court reporters are able to provide a transcript of proceedings, which is a verbatim record of the proceedings held in court. If you need the court docket printout and/or other court-filed document, you must contact the Clerk’s Office. Click here for the contact information of each Clerk’s Office.
- QUESTION: Can I get the transcript today?
- ANSWER: Most likely not. Transcripts are produced based on requested delivery times, appropriate financial arrangements being made, and also court reporter availability.
- QUESTION: How do I pay for a transcript?
- ANSWER: Each court reporter will provide their payment options. Some court reporters are able to provide electronic payment options such as PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, CashApp, and/or credit card processing. Other court reporters may require cash, money order, and/or bank check.
- QUESTION: Can I get an audio recording of a hearing?
- ANSWER: When a court reporter is present for the proceedings, no audio recording is available. The transcript produced by the court reporter is the official record of the proceedings.
